4 Things You Should NOT Do When Terminating Someone
The best way to prepare for terminating someone is to know what to say (and what not to say) during the conversation. It is often a difficult and emotional conversation to have. Conducting the termination with poise is your ultimate goal.

Here are 4 things you should avoid doing during a job termination conversation:
1. Don't Procrastinate
The situation will not get easier with time. Don’t put off the conversation. Be prepared with what you’re going to say and then deliver the news.
2. Don't Argue
It’s not worth getting into an argument with the individual. Now is not the time to have a debate. Simply speak objectively and move on.
3. Don't Undermine the Message
The termination decision is one you need to stand behind (even if you don’t personally agree with it). Be firm in the decision.
4. Don't Talk About How Difficult This is for You
As tempting as it may be, don’t comment on how hard it is for you to be delivering the bad news. Take ownership of the decision and speak with confidence and clarity.
